Who he is

From fighter to coach

Edgard Plazaola, known as “The Dream Killer”, is a professional bare-knuckle fighter and former MMA competitor who has not lost a professional fight in either sport. Born in Nicaragua and fighting out of Miami, he is the No. 1 ranked contender in the BKFC featherweight division.

He is a Freestyle Fighting Academy black belt and a no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. Five of his six bare-knuckle wins have come by stoppage, which is the short version of why the nickname stuck.

He is also the coach

When he is not fighting, Edgard teaches at Freestyle Fighting Academy in Miami, the gym founded by Marcos and David Avellan. He is the only coach there who teaches across all three programs — kids, adults and bootcamp — and he trains twice a day himself.

That is the part that matters if you are thinking about lessons. Plenty of fighters will sell you an hour of their time. Coaching every level, every day, is a different skill, and it is the one you are actually paying for.

Private sessions are one-on-one with Edgard at Freestyle Fighting Academy, 1423 SW 107th Ave., Miami, FL 33174. Sessions are arranged around your schedule rather than a fixed timetable, and they are built around what you want: striking technique, power, defense, conditioning, or preparing for a competition.

He teaches complete beginners as well as competitive fighters. You do not need any experience, and you do not need to be in shape first.

Undefeated in the squared circle

Six bare-knuckle fights, six wins, five of them finishes. His most recent was a unanimous decision over Gary Fox — then the BKFC United Kingdom featherweight champion — in the co-main event of BKFC 80 in September 2025, which made him the division’s No. 1 contender.
